In Conjunction with the 2010 Australian Legends Classic Wednesday October 27th

The Port of Townsville Rotary Charity Golf Day will feature as the preliminary tournament to kick start the Australian Legends Classic, held by the Willow Golf Resort, as part of the Australian PGA Legends Tour.  Primed to be Townsville’s principal Charity Golf Day, this fun filled event will draw up to 120 Professional and Amateur players to the fairways of Willows Golf Resort. Australia’s internationally recognised golfing hero Wayne Grady will be Rotary’s honorary celebrity guest. Other tournament winners who regularly feature in the PGA Legends Tour include Rodger Davis, Bob Shearer, Michael Harwood, Michael Clayton, Terry Gale and Ossie Moore. The ultimate aim of the Charity Golf Day is to raise awareness of the Port of Townsville Rotary’s community work. The Charity Golf Day will provide a platform for businesses to provide community good will by strategically aligning with a valued organisation and cause. The action packed event will feature a Pro-Am tournament and finish the fun filled day on a high note with a Championship Reception, presentations, key note address and Calcutta. Other special guests include Rodney Hogg, former Australian cricketing legend. "Still chasing birdies not pushing up daisies" Sponsors, players and the Professionals will be helping to raise awareness of and directly contributing funds to the nominated beneficiaries.

The aim of the Port of Townsville Rotary Pro-Am Charity Golf Day is to raise $10,000 for each of this year’s principal recipients: People with cancer often need to travel to Townsville to utilise the services of North Queensland’s largest treatment centre. To help meet this vital need Cancer Council Queensland Gluyas Rotary Lodge provides comfortable accommodation and is available to people with cancer and their families who are from out of town. Most importantly, this accommodation facility enables families to stay together during treatment, which is a tremendous psychological and emotional comfort. Your valuable contribution will go to the upgrading the Gluyas Rotary lodge facilities, Children at the Townsville West State School have a rare opportunity in a city environment to access the multitude of educational benefits that small schools offer, including a sense of community, individualised care and greater pastoral care. The Townsville West State School has strong professionals who work together with the students, staff, parents and community to build a relaxed, focused educational setting where every student can achieve their full potential.
